In reply to your despatch No. 7 (1184/21) of the
21st February, I have the honour to inform you that
statisties and information regarding the smuggling
of opium and other narcotics from Formosa into this địa-
triot show that the smuggling has remained fairly constant
during the last two years, not showing any parti sular
tendency to increase or to decrease,

The chief offenders are Japanese motor-schooners
vessels of one or two hundred tons, and of sufficiently
light draught to be able to enter the numerous inlets on
this coast, where their operations are difficult of de-
testion or of observation.
I have the honour to enclose a table showing the amounts
and values of smuggled opium and morphia confissated by the
Amoy Oustoms during the year 1920.
